What do your employers spring for on nurses' week?

At the nursing home where I work, the nurse bosses who work in the offices cook for us front line nurses who take care of the patients.

Meatballs, lasagna and scali bread, here we come. It never fails. Sprinkled with powdered cheese that comes in a green can.

Plus we get a generic can of warm soda and a bowl of rippled potato chips to nibble from of course.

Later they'll scoop us some ice cream in a styrofoam bowl and hand out $5 gift certificates to Dunkin' Donuts.

This all takes place during our half hour meal break, assuming we actually get to take one which is definitely not a definite.

Anyway nurses, I hope your employers give you some good grub this week. And maybe you'll get a chance during your shift to eat it too. >:) Or even better, a cash bonus and/or a paid day off? Nevermind. Don't think about it.
  • NC, worked tele, right now I'm in NP school.

Hi there - Community Health Nurse here. Today my boss gave all of us a beautiful gerbera daisy to plant in the garden and a $10 gift card to Starbucks.

Happy Nurses Week to my fellow RNs out there! B)

Now now. Don't be leaving out LPNs. It ain't right. Happy Nurses' week to LPNs too. We change the diapers.

  • Sorry! I meant no disrespect! NPs too!!

No no no. Not Nurse Practitioners. Licensed Practical Nurses. LPNs. Otherwise known as Less Paid Nurses.

(Half kidding with all this. I know you meant no disrespect  )

Still though. I would have thought RNs would get more than a daisy and a $10 cup of coffee during Nurses' Week.

Happy Nurses Week! I'm recovering from bilateral total knee replacements so no idea how the hospital is celebrating. In the past, the unit I was on was gifted an electric pencil sharpener....I kid you not :D

Originally from Arkansas, now in Northern Virginia, ICU
    Edit: nightshift!

Cheers to your new knees and feel better soon!

A pencil sharpener? A local high school maybe was going out of business and they had a liquidation sale? I hope you guys sent thank you notes.

Night shift. Oy. I did that on and off for years but had to stop in my 40s. I never mastered the art of sleeping for any consecutive number of hours during the day. And three hours of sleep wasn't cutting it. During the end of my latest night shift tenure three years ago I was so sick and half blind from fatigue I was peeing blood.

My hat is off and I bow deeply and reverently to anyone over 35 who can do the 11 to 7 thing.

Thanks! The new knees are coming along :)

I've been a nurse for 30 years...it's freaky just to type that out...and went to straight nights when my kids were little about 24 years ago...kids are big now but find I prefer the lack of admin and frantic activity on nights...lol I'm 54 btw
But it's not for everybody, your experience sounds horrible, sorry that happened
