  • @skippygirlsmom - you might try bringing some pepper spray with you. A lot of Bicycle shops and several shoe stores I know of sell it.

@skippygirlsmom - omg - that's terrible!!! I just happened to see this article on dogs when running. It really doesn't give much advice though. I wanted to know how to whack them in the head and knock them out.

Interesting article. I tell Skip a few things when she is walking Macy alone (1) if she pulls you into the street let go of her leash and let her go, YOU are my concern, as much as I love my Macymoo YOU are my child and I would never get over you being hit (2) if she gets in a doggie fight let go of the leash so she can defend herself and run for help to the nearest house. Do not try to help her out so you don't get bit. I got in the middle of my German Shepard when she was in a dog fight, it wasn't pretty. I got bit, but finally managed to get her and the other dog, who came onto my property apart.
  • Adding May 3,4, and 5. Finished my last training run. 5K is Friday and 1/2 marathon Saturday. Hoping to beat my previous time of 3:30.

  • @Pandora_and_her_box how is it coming along this month? I KNOW you can do it!!!
@skippygirlsmom avoiding a loose pit is always the best course of action - good instincts! I once had one run up & put her hot slobbery jaws on my Pug/Jack Russell's back, I just barely managed to yank my dog's leash hard enough to rip her away as those jaws were closing down. I held her to my chest, stood as big as I could manage & yelled as meanly as I could "NO! BAD DOG!" & she immediately dropped to her belly & slunked away like she thought I was going to beat her or something. That is what my dog Trainer told me to do whenever in a confrontation with a big dog - stand tall, clutch whatever it is they want possessively to your chest, look down severely & sternly tell them no in as low & growly a voice as possible. Luckily you didn't have to face that dog, but if you ever have to & you don't have pepper spray they do respond to confidence & dominance in most cases. Now I carry pepper spray just in case. It was too scary for me to ever want repeated...

    5/5 5 miles Pace: S-L-O-W 12:12 :)
Um, I forgot to count my warm up run Bloomsday, so here is my updated mileage, plus according to my Garmin with all my bobbing & weaving I actually ran a 7.62 mile Bloomsday.
    5/3 8.21 Miles; Bloomsday race 7.62 miles Pace 9:23

    Total: 13.21; 102.99 to go

  • 5/5 2 slow miles. I created a Runner's World SmartCoach plan to get me to a half marathon in October. I am really hoping I can do the race in the time it says I can so I am just going to go with it and hope for the best. In other news, I should probably pay attention to the weather before I head out. I didn't realize it was still raining and that I probably should have put my contacts in. Not being able to see made things interesting.

  • You guys ready to see my truly impressive mileage from today?!

1.3 miles. In 31:45. Yes you read that right. Being sick sucks.

    Planned miles so far: 19.2
Actual miles: 0 (let's be real, I won't count my hobbling around the block)
  • ^ Hey, that's good for being sick. Remember to take it easy!
  • Don't push too hard. Get well first!

I'm having a sick scare here. Three of four kids sent home sick today, fevers, vomiting. The 3rd run of a 39.3 series is Saturday, which if I make it I hope to run another a week later to make Saturn status in Half Fanatics. I'm practically bathing in sanitizer. :persevere:
  • 5/5- 4.2m Trail 15.1 Total, 29.9 to go.
For the first time I ran 25 minutes without stopping, regardless of the hills!

82 new posts! Wow, you guys rock!
  • I probably won't update until the end of the month. But as I'm new to running I'll put myself down for 26.1 Miles, or a marathon of miles for the month. I'll probably go over, but I prefer to aim low in case something happens. So far in two runs I've managed 6.5 miles.
  • Slow and steady. Recovering from this injury is a new mindset for me. Its been 2 1/2 months and I just want to get back to where I was.

Raced an impromptu "Cinco K" for an organization that works with my girlfriend at her job. Came in first place and won free dinner! It was about 85° and just icky out, so I ran at 10k pace.

  • @booklover22 - That's great!!! You will be amazed at how you will just keep adding on, but just take it slow so you don't get injured.
@sonicdeathMonkey80 - How fun! You should have run thru a Taco Bell and picked up a taco during the race and you still would have won!
