My name is Alyssa, I am 24 years old, 5'0", and I have been chubby my whole life - this is my story.

I was cursed by genetics. My sister and brother grew up skinny while I kept growing up chunkier.

Years go by and I'm just gaining weight. My nutrition is horrible, my self-esteem is worse.

I'm the "fat friend" that people had growing up, always being uncomfortable around others.
I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin-resistance/pre-diabetic at 18 years old. I was in college. I fell into a depression and ate my way to obesity.
At 22 I decided to do something about it after I hit a staggering 210 pounds and over 50% body fat. I had asthma and heavy exercise was out of the question. I started with portion control and walking.

Now I meal prep weekly.

I am now 115 pounds with 19% body fat. I've reached goal weights I never thought I was capable. On good days, I see abs. I work out 6 days a week. I warm up with a 5k. I can leg press over twice my body weight. I lift weight every day.

My asthma has disappeared, I'm no longer insulin resistant, and my PCOS symptoms have vanished entirely.

There is no magic pill, nothing except getting your butt of the couch and eating right.
Now I'm happy and in the best shape of my life. I am getting certified to be a personal trainer and, get this, going back to school (I have a bachelors in biology currently) to be a firefighter. Tell high school Alyssa that this is her future and she will laugh in your face.

And of course I have a wonderful boyfriend of 2.5 years that has been with me through it all and couldn't be more supportive.

You CAN beat obesity. And PCOS. And insecurity. Fitness saved my life in a million ways.
